The Mechanical Technical Writer will create, maintain, and improve technical documentation supporting large-scale data center deployment, readiness, commissioning support, site turnover, and operational handoff. This role focuses on mechanical infrastructure documentation, including procedures, standards, playbooks, checklists, knowledge content, MOPs, deployment guides, commissioning materials, turnover packages, and field work instructions. Qualified candidates must be comfortable working within one of the following locations: Abilene, TX, Shackelford, TX, Saline, MI, Port Washington, WI, or Las Cruces, NM. Relocation assistance will be provided for selected out-of-market individuals. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain documentation supporting mechanical site deployment activities for data center builds, expansions, retrofits, and operational readiness milestones. • Create SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, work instructions, readiness guides, commissioning support materials, punch-list support content, turnover packages, knowledge articles, and operational playbooks. • Partner with mechanical SMEs across deployment, engineering, construction, commissioning, facilities operations, reliability, safety, compliance, and vendors to convert technical requirements into executable documentation. • Document mechanical deployment processes related to cooling systems, chilled water systems, CRAH/CRAC units, air handling equipment, pumps, piping, valves, heat exchangers, containment, economization, water treatment, leak detection, BMS integration, commissioning turnover, and operational handoff. • Maintain documentation quality through SME reviews, version control, approval workflows, field feedback loops, audit trails, and refresh cycles. If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please send a request to HR@insightglobal.com.To learn more about how we collect, keep, and process your private information, please review Insight Global's Workforce Privacy Policy: Required Skills & Experience • 5+ years of experience in technical writing, technical documentation, mechanical documentation, data center deployment, critical facilities, infrastructure operations, construction documentation, commissioning support, engineering support, or similarly complex technical environments. • Experience creating documentation for mission-critical infrastructure, including SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, work instructions, commissioning documentation, readiness checklists, turnover packages, field guides, knowledge articles, or controlled operating procedures. • Strong understanding of mechanical infrastructure in data center, industrial, utility, manufacturing, energy, or other mission-critical environments. Nice to Have Skills & Experience • Experience documenting mechanical deployment, commissioning, startup, functional testing, maintenance, incident response, operational readiness, site acceptance, or turnover processes. • Familiarity with CMMS, DCIM, BMS, EPMS, SCADA, commissioning platforms, ticketing systems, learning management systems, document management systems, or content management platforms.
