Job Description: Job Summary Responsible for supporting laboratory operations by transporting patient specimens, supplies, and CAP surveys between collection sites and laboratories. Assists with specimen storage, inventory management, and disposal of old specimens. Completes non-technical tasks such as pouring off specimens, restocking supplies, and maintaining organization in processing areas. Ensures timely and accurate delivery of materials to facilitate efficient laboratory workflow. Contributes to patient care by providing reliable and responsive support services within the clinical laboratory environment. Essential Functions • Maintains competency in applicable work areas and adheres to policies and procedures. • Manages laboratory inventory, stock rotation, and storage to prevent product expiration. • Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked workspace. • Performs timely specimen pick-up, delivery, triage, and proper documentation. • Prepares, processes, and disposes of specimens according to laboratory protocols. • Performs quality assurance, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting as required. • Communicates courteously and empathetically with patients, providers, and team members. • Participates in training, competency assessments, and continuing education activities. • Supports laboratory process improvement and assists with clerical tasks as needed. • Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirement High school diploma or equivalent experience Experience Requirement 0-1 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Occasional (Physical Demands This position requires regular standing or walking with objects up to 10 pounds; intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; intermittent standing or walking with objects up to 25 pounds; intermittent sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with intermittent repetitive motions (such as sorting or preparing samples). Also involves occasional exposure to risk of back injury from moving or positioning materials, risk of injuries from use of equipment, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, burns, cuts/punctures, and bloodborne or airborne pathogens. What you'll do as a CDL-A Delivery Driver: • Inspect tractor-trailer for defects pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection report indicating condition. • Inspect bill of lading and store keys for accuracy in off-hour delivery. • Drive tractor-trailer to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle on the road and on customer premises. • Maintain driver log (Manual or Peoplenet) according to DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipt, product temperatures and exceptions. • Unload trailer, delivering product into customer premises. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications you'll bring as a CDL-A Teammate: • At least 21 years of age • Valid Class A commercial driver's license (CDL-A) • At least 1 year or 50,000 verifiable miles of tractor-trailer driving experience • Must meet McLane's MVR and risk rating qualifications • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role.
