City: Remote State: Remote Job Summary The Commissioning Specialist performs advanced technical analysis and evaluation of electrical and mechanical systems in support of commissioning and retro-commissioning projects, as well as related regulatory audits governed by NFPA and NEC. This role is responsible for assessing whether building systems and equipment operate in accordance with engineering design intent, project specifications, and applicable regulatory standards. Through the interpretation of system performance data, engineering drawings, and field conditions, the Commissioning Specialist identifies deficiencies, determines root causes, and develops technically sound recommendations to support system optimization and compliance. Working collaboratively with commissioning engineers, contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders, the Commissioning Specialist applies specialized knowledge of building systems to synthesize technical findings into clear, actionable conclusions used to inform project outcomes and client decision-making. Field activities are conducted as part of a broader analytical process to gather and evaluate system performance information. This role requires advanced knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical building systems, the ability to apply engineering principles in evaluating complex system interactions, and the consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion. Success in this position depends on strong analytical capability, effective technical communication, and the ability to adapt methodologies to varied project conditions while supporting safe and efficient project execution. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Electrical discipline specific: • Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of emergency generators, UPS systems, PDUs, panel boards, switchboards, transformers, electrical meters, VFDs, lighting control systems, and related components, ensuring accuracy of results and alignment with commissioning requirements. • Interprets, analyzes, and validates electrical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. • Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of commissioning records. Mechanical discipline specific: • Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of RTUs, chillers, AHUs, CRACs, CRAHs, VRF and split systems, hydronic and DX systems, pumps, water heaters, heating systems, and related components, ensuring proper system performance verification. • Interprets, analyzes, and validates mechanical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. • Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools, ensuring data integrity across commissioning records and reporting outputs. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job does not have specific supervisory responsibilities. Education, Certifications, and Experience: • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university (electrical, mechanical, or related field) required; minimum of three years of related experience. Individuals without a degree may be considered if they have significant related experience (typically five or more years) and can demonstrate knowledge equivalent to that acquired through the required education. • Minimum required experience: 3 years • Preferred experience: 5-10 years of progressively responsible field and/or commissioning-related experience Valid driver's license required, with a clean driving record and no significant MVA points or violations. • Employees who incur $2,000 or more annually in company-related travel expenses will be required to obtain and maintain a Corporate Credit Card. The noise level at the project site is usually moderate. The Opportunity WSDOT Technology Services Division (TSD) is seeking a journey-level IT Customer Support Specialist to provide technical support for end-user computing devices throughout the Eastern Region (ER). In this role, you will independently troubleshoot and resolve routine and complex hardware, software, operating system, smartphone, tablet, telephony, laptop, desktop, and peripheral issues, ensuring employees have the technology and support needed to effectively deliver WSDOT's mission of providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options that improve communities and economic vitality for people and businesses. A strong candidate will possess excellent technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, exceptional customer service and communication abilities, and the ability to prioritize work while providing responsive support in a dynamic environment. What to Expect The ER TSD team provides services to nearly 500 employees using over 1,200 technology assets at 24 sites in a seven-county area, including the state's second largest city. This position reports to the ER Workstation System Admin, who reports to the ER Technology Services Manager. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the IT Customer Support Specialist will: • Provide technical customer support for mobile computing and cellular telecommunications devices for the ER. • Monitor the WSDOT Account Management (WAM) system for new incoming ER employees. • Purchase, install, maintain, and repair nearly 300 AT&T and/or Verizon cellular smartphones, MiFi's, and other telephony related devices. • Install and configure Microsoft 365 applications (including Teams), WSDOT Company Portal applications, and other software using Microsoft Intune and other deployment methods. • Apply the latest firmware, application, security and other patches and updates. • Provide technical customer support of WSDOT office-based computing devices both remotely and on-premises at locations throughout the region. • Deploy new computing hardware such as desktops and laptops by installing the WSDOT standard image, any required firmware and OS updates, as well as any requested software applications. • Install and maintain peripherals such as docks, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards/mice, etc, often involving travel to customer sites on a daily/weekly basis. • Assist region employees with unresolved IT-related technical support issues. • Provide satellite phone and other device connectivity and support to the region and provide telecommunication support for the Emergency Operations Center. • Provide ongoing training to region employees as technology changes to keep end users informed about new features and updates.
