JOB FUNCTION:As a Grocery Clerk, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our grocery department. In this role, you'll package purchases, assist customers, maintain the store, and lend a hand wherever you are needed. What You'll Do No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect: • Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great one • Package customer purchases and assist customers in transporting them to their mode of transportation • Bring carts in from the parking lot and cart corrals throughout your shift • Clean registers, restrooms, the break room, and the backroom, and sweep and mop floors as needed • Clean the can redemption area and empty recycle bins where applicable • Stock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and know the location of merchandise in the store and backroom • Pull product forward on shelves to maintain a full, organized appearance • Check prices on products as needed • Maintain front end supplies including paper and plastic bags, receipt paper, and other necessary items • Help train new courtesy clerks • Deliver product to customers and assist in all departments as requested within wage and hour guidelines • Shovel, salt, and sand walkways as needed • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment • Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned • Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines • Report to work when scheduled and on time Your Skills To be successful, you'll need to be able to: • Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables • Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately • Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing • Work effectively as part of a team to keep the store clean and customers happy Reporting Relationships Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Service Managers Education and Experience • No education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed Physical Requirements • Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas • Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation • Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment • Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards • Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties Working Environment This role keeps you active throughout the store and surrounding exterior areas.
