The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will provide direct patient care in a correctional setting, including administering medications, monitoring patient conditions, assisting with treatments, and documenting care. This role will collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care while adhering to facility policies, state regulations, and infection control standards. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will also support patient education and contribute to a safe and efficient healthcare environment. How YOU can Make an Impact: Provide direct patient care including assessments, monitoring vital signs, and administering prescribed treatments and medications as directed by the physician. Conduct initial medical screenings upon entry into the facility and provide ongoing care throughout the patient's stay. Assist with sick call assessments, responding to patient health complaints, and providing appropriate care or referrals. Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care as necessary. Monitor and document patient progress, making recommendations to the physician for modifications in treatment when necessary. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with facility policies, state regulations, and healthcare standards. Ensure that all medical treatments, procedures, and interventions are in compliance with federal, state, and local healthcare regulations. Administer medications, document patient reactions, and ensure proper handling and storage of medications according to established protocols. Work closely with physicians, healthcare providers, and correctional staff to ensure effective coordination of patient care. Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external providers to ensure the continuity of care and address any concerns. Educate patients and facility staff on basic health and wellness topics, including disease prevention, medication management, and health maintenance. Ensure the medical unit is well-stocked with necessary supplies and equipment and that it remains organized and clean. Report any issues with medical equipment or facilities to the appropriate personnel to ensure continuous operation. Perform other related duties as assigned. What we Ask of YOU: A current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role (LPN). A High School diploma or GED is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required. 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment. Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage. Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment. Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved). Medication Aide (WA) The Medication Aide helps create a joyful & vibrant community by caring for residents and administering and/or assisting with the self-administration of routine and non-routine and non-injectable medications by oral, rectal, or topical means in accordance with physician orders and nursing practices as directed by the Director of Nursing Services. Essential Position Duties • Performs various tasks assigned by the Director of Nursing Services including vital signs, residents' weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, as well as lifting, moving, and transporting residents, using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention as directed by the Director of Nursing where State Nursing Regulations authorize such delegation. • Maintains accurate record of medications and treatments administered or omitted on each resident's clinical record to include the reason medication was omitted or prn medication was given. • Records narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheet, reporting all medication errors immediately. • Reports and records changes in resident conditions, incident and accidents to Director of Nursing Services, physician and family members as indicated by the Director of Nursing Services. • Communicates with physician, pharmacy, and family as indicated to ensure medications are received in a timely manner. Provides direct resident care while promoting resident dignity, independence, and choice; regularly observes resident's physical and mental condition and directly reports to the Director of Nursing Services. • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the resident, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors. • Assists with or performs ADL's as needed, accurately documents care services provided in observation on communication logs and incident reports. • Greets residents, visitors, and staff courteously and in a manner that respects dignity, confidentiality standards and promotes individual rights. • Follows and supports community fire safety and infection control practices and promptly reports any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Director of Nursing Services. • Follows standard precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs. • Restores medication and equipment and keeps the medication room clean and orderly. • Removes outdated or discontinued medication for return to the pharmacy. • Attends and participates in required meetings and trainings. Stays current on system assigned tasks and duties. • Performs other tasks/duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications & Skills • A high school diploma or equivalent • Must hold current CNA/HCA license in good standing • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English • Must hold a medication pass certification per state requirements • Current First Aid and CPR Card • Maintains current Food Handlers card • Pass a criminal background and fingerprint check • General computer literacy and good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Working knowledge of office machines (copier, fax, phone system, etc.).
