Hybrid position located at Markel's offices in Rosemont, Illinois or Omaha, Nebraska. This role combines paralegal and administrative responsibilities and provides support to Markel's insurance legal team, with a primary focus on regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters. The position assists with document preparation, regulatory filings, legal operations, and other activities necessary to support Markel's business and compliance obligations. Job Duties • Provide broad legal and administrative support to in-house attorneys supporting Markel's insurance operations, with a primary focus on regulatory, compliance, corporate, and transactional matters, excluding litigation. • Prepare and assist with regulatory filings, including insurance holding company filings, state regulatory submissions, licensing-related filings, and other corporate regulatory documentation. • Perform internet-based factual and legal research and assist with special research projects. • Track legislative and regulatory developments impacting the property and casualty insurance industry and assist in communicating relevant changes to attorneys and business partners. • Monitor the relationship with third-party vendors supporting NDA review processes and help track compliance with company requirements. • Assist in drafting, organizing, and managing legal and regulatory documents. • Maintain electronic filing systems and legal records to ensure documents are accurate, organized, and readily accessible. • Interface with internal business partners, including Underwriting, Finance, Tax, Treasury, Compliance, and other departments, and serve as a liaison between the Legal Department and the rest of the company. • Assist with coordinating signatures, notarizations, and execution of legal and regulatory documents. • Maintain regulatory calendars and assist with tracking filing deadlines and reporting obligations. • Support other legal operations, regulatory, and compliance initiatives as needed. Education • Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree in paralegal studies, certification from an ABA-approved paralegal program, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Work Experience / Skills • At least five years of in-house paralegal experience or other relevant legal, regulatory, or compliance experience. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammar, proofreading, and organizational abilities. • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. • Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships across departments and levels of the organization. • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint. • Experience working with document management systems, legal operations tools, or workflow management systems is a plus. • Notary Public designation is a plus. • Prior insurance, regulatory, compliance, or financial services experience preferred, but not required. Pay Information The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The national average salary range for the Paralegal position is $32 - $44/hr with 12% incentive. About the Role: We're looking for enthusiastic, energetic, and self-motivated team players with at least 2 years of customer-facing experience to: • Deliver vehicles straight to customers' doors with our custom car haulers (don't worry - a commercial license is not required to drive the hauler and you will receive ample training) • Frequently load/unload vehicles onto the hauler (this part does require getting physical!) and regularly inspect the car-hauler to make sure the vehicle maintains safe to drive • Complete customer paperwork and include thorough notes in our customer tracking system • Consistently drive safe and maintain a clean driving record in accordance with Carvana's CMV Driver Qualification policy. * Candidates must be able to satisfy state-specific requirements related to access DMV/title and registration systems. * Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, and Missouri employees must obtain a Chauffeur's license or any other state specialty license within the first two weeks of employment (process sponsored by Carvana). * California employees must obtain a Vehicle Verifier license within the first 90 days of employment (Process sponsored by Carvana). General qualifications and requirements • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks like detailing vehicles and loading/unloading vehicles onto our haulers in indoor and outdoor conditions with occasional exposure to inclement/extreme weather (some markets may require deliveries to be made in the snow, while other markets require deliveries to be made in the summer heat) . • Ability to walk/stand and sustain physical activity for extended periods of time (8+ hours) • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English • Requires high and low levels of movement with the ability to reach with arms, twist, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and squat • Requires the grasping, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling of items of 50lbs. • Frequent driving requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity.
