Maintenance Technician Lead North Star Fishing Company is dedicated to producing the highest quality frozen-at-sea groundfish products in the world. We are one of the largest producers of frozen at sea flatfish, cod, pollock and other groundfish, and distributes seafood throughout the world. We manage three trawl catcher-processor vessels that operate in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and the Gulf of Alaska. Come join us with one of the many exciting job opportunities available! The Maintenance Technician Lead works aboard at-sea processing vessels in the Bering Sea and off the coast of Washington and Oregon. They work under the Chief Engineer to conduct repairs, fabrication and maintenance in the factory and other parts of the ship. Requirements • Work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week in all kinds of weather conditions • Understand instructions and safety rules in English • Board and exit vessel without assistance by climbing up and down a gangway or Jacob's ladder • Capable of climbing and descending steep stairs and vertical ladders • Perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time • Be away from medical attention for up to 3 months • Repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds • Share spaces with others including crew quarters, dining areas and bathrooms Job Duties and Responsibilities • Possess sound mechanical knowledge and experience, preferably from fishing vessels or similar processing equipment. • Familiarization with factory equipment and systems, ability to recognize normal operation of all equipment. • Install, maintain and repair vessel and factory equipment including pumps, motors, belts, and conveyors, bearings, hydraulics, control valves, and filtration units. • Modify, fabricate and repair factory equipment. • Maintain adequate and accurate inventory of necessary parts and supplies. • Troubleshoot problems with equipment onboard the vessel and assesses to determine most effective and efficient means of repair. • Utilize tig, mig and arc welding skills to modify, fabricate and repair equipment as directed. • Understand and comply with all company safety policies and procedures. • Must be available to work both at sea and in the shipyard periods. Qualifications • 5+ years experience in a Maintenance Technician role on board a fishing vessel preferred. • Knowledge of hydraulics, welding stainless with Tig and stick equipment. • Experience building and repairing factory equipment. • Experience managing inventory, purchasing and managing a budget. Benefits • Company travel policy agreement: successful completion of scheduled trips grants eligibility for airfare expenses between Dutch Harbor, Alaska and Seattle, WA to be paid by the company • Free Room and Board. • Eligible for 401K. • Health/Dental benefits once eligibility requirements are met. $19,200 - $20,800 a month Crew paid a share of the catch each fishing trip. Average crew share per trip is $9,600 - $10,400 depending on the value of the catch.
