This position is open to students from all academic majors; however, students with an interest in law enforcement or criminal justice are especially encouraged to apply. Position is open summer 2026 Occupational Summary: The Student Security Worker supports the Campus Security Department in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role works under the supervision of the Director of Security and assists with routine monitoring, patrols, and customer service functions across campus. Work Performed: • Conduct foot or vehicle patrols of assigned areas • Support access control procedures (unlocking/locking buildings, monitoring entrances) • Provide general assistance and information to students, staff, and visitors • Report suspicious activity, hazards, or incidents to the Director of Security or appropriate personnel • Assist with special events or campus activities, including crowd management and safety support • Complete basic logs, reports, or incident documentation as required • Follow all university safety policies and procedures • Assist in monitoring campus buildings and grounds to promote safety and security Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills/Training: • Must be a current Newman University student enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Reliable attendance, professionalism, and strong integrity • Ability to remain calm and professional in various situations • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information or incidents • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to work 12–20 hours per week around academic schedules • Availability for afternoon/evening shifts and occasional special events • Basic knowledge of campus layout and facilities preferred • Previous customer service or security-related experience preferred Physical Requirements During Work Shift: • Ability to walk campus grounds for extended periods • Ability to climb stairs and perform routine patrol activities • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions • Ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds Founded in 1933, Newman University is a liberal arts institution grounded in Catholic values and traditions, yet is respectful of all faiths. This role requires advanced knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical building systems, the ability to apply engineering principles in evaluating complex system interactions, and the consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion. Success in this position depends on strong analytical capability, effective technical communication, and the ability to adapt methodologies to varied project conditions while supporting safe and efficient project execution. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Electrical discipline specific: • Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of emergency generators, UPS systems, PDUs, panel boards, switchboards, transformers, electrical meters, VFDs, lighting control systems, and related components, ensuring accuracy of results and alignment with commissioning requirements. • Interprets, analyzes, and validates electrical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. • Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of commissioning records. Mechanical discipline specific: • Operates, observes, evaluates, and documents testing of RTUs, chillers, AHUs, CRACs, CRAHs, VRF and split systems, hydronic and DX systems, pumps, water heaters, heating systems, and related components, ensuring proper system performance verification. • Interprets, analyzes, and validates mechanical drawings and schematics to verify field conditions, identify equipment, and support commissioning activities and system verification. • Documents, evaluates, and validates testing outcomes in approved commissioning platforms such as CxAlly, Facility Grid, or other company-approved tools, ensuring data integrity across commissioning records and reporting outputs. Education, Certifications, and Experience: • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university (electrical, mechanical, or related field) required; minimum of three years of related experience.
