Responsible for providing the highest quality pharmaceutical care to patients of the mail order pharmacy. This position reviews prescriptions for accuracy and takes appropriate steps for clarification or correction if necessary. This role monitors daily workflow to meet production goals and complete mail order prescriptions. Other expectations include communicating with patients and physicians regarding drug interactions, medication identification, sensitivities, allergies, and safety issues. Receives verbal prescriptions via Interactive Voice Response or telephone from physicians office and immediately reduces to writing. Contacts prescriber for any clarifications or necessary recommendation prior to forwarding to appropriate staff member. Transfers prescriptions either incoming or outgoing to appropriate retail pharmacies following state and federal laws. Evaluates prescriptions in the pharmacy computer system for accuracy, drug utilization review (DUR), and patient history.
