Thrift Store Manager The Thrift Store Manager drives the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida (BGCCF) mission through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and effective resource management. This role demands a blend of competencies that foster both internal team growth andexternal community engagement. The manager directs all facets of store operations, from inventory procurement and innovative merchandising to the supervision of staff and volunteer activities. Leading a team of 10-15, including an Assistant Store Manager, Shift Supervisors, employees, and volunteers, the Manager oversees recruitment, training, and performance evaluations. Aligning sales strategies with fiscal objectives and cultivating an uplifting team atmosphere that prioritizes safety, engagement, and the full expression of employee potential are key responsibilities of this role. Administrative responsibilities encompass vendor liaison, equipment upkeep, inventory management, and the execution of operational strategies that advance BGCCF's fundraising goals and community impact. Responsibilities Key Roles • Drives customer focus and builds effective team competencies to recommend and establish store policies, procedures, and protocols, ensuring a superior customer service experience and a secure, welcoming environment. • Employs and develops talent and manages conflict. Skilled in the hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management of staff and volunteers. • Cultivating a team-oriented culture that values safety, engagement, ethics, and high performance. Strategic Planning • Demonstrates a strategic mindset, taking responsibility for crafting a comprehensive business plan that includes marketing strategies, operational procedures, promotions, standards of operation, and forecasting to guide future expansion and community impact. Resource Management • Showcases financial acumen by managing daily cash handling, accounting processes, budget creation, and expenditure oversight in collaboration with the COO & finance department. • Applies decision quality and cultivates innovation in inventory control, including record-keeping, loss prevention, and efficient turnover, to enhance store success and customer relationships. • Regularly performs store and warehouse inspections to identify and address safety, maintenance, and cleanliness issues, underscoring a commitment to a high-quality shopping and working environment. • Ensure regular maintenance of the store truck, including routine checks and servicing, to uphold its appearance and functionality. Partnership Development and Marketing • Strengthens community and vendor relationships through effective partnership development, working closely with individual and corporate donors and other retail partners to ensure a steady flow of inventory donations. • Collaborates with the VP of Marketing & Community Relations to maintain brand integrity across all collateral materials, social media content, and signage, while also driving community awareness and engagement through innovative marketing and merchandising strategies. Warehouse Management • Organizes warehouse inventory in alignment with organizational procedures, prioritizing efficiency, and security, and liaises with the Director of Facilities to ensure the maintenance of the store and property, demonstrating situational adaptability to respond to and address shifting priorities. Additional Accountability Supervisory Responsibilities • Demonstrates proficiency in leadership and team development by actively managing a diverse team, including performance evaluations, objective setting, and facilitating professional growth through coaching and development opportunities. • Exhibits strong organizational and planning skills in managing staff schedules to ensure operational efficiency, optimal staffing levels, and effective labor cost management while fostering a positive team environment. Relationships Internal: • Cultivates strong internal relationships by engaging in daily, meaningful interactions with Thrift Store staff and volunteers, fostering an environment of open communication and collaboration. Actively liaise with supervisors and other key stakeholders to exchange vital information, ensuring strategic alignment and operational efficiency. External: • Builds and maintains robust external relationships, establishing rapport with vendors, donors, customers, and the broader community. This role emphasizes strategic communication and partnership development to enhance the store's visibility, resource acquisition, and customer satisfaction. • Uphold BGCCF's code of conduct by exercising sound judgment to avoid conflicts of interest and ensure that personal or family interests do not interfere with or appear to interfere with the organization's interests. This includes avoiding external activities that could compromise the ability to make unbiased decisions for BGCCF. Environmental and Working Conditions • The position requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments of a retail store setting, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions. • Required to operate a motor vehicle. • Work in environments frequented by the public, requiring adherence to safety and conduct standards that ensure a child-friendly and family-oriented atmosphere. • Must be adaptable to a dynamic work schedule, including evenings and weekends. Physical and Mental Requirements • Ability to read, understand, and interpret a wide range of documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy manuals, as well as various forms of instructions (oral, written, diagrams, schedules). • Proficiency in manual tasks requiring the use of hands for handling, feeling, operating store equipment, and performing detailed work with visual and auditory acuity to ensure high safety standards in a retail and warehouse environment. • Effective communication skills, both verbal and auditory, for clear interactions with staff, donors, customers, and community members, including the capacity to hear and respond in dynamic, sometimes noisy conditions. • Physical endurance to frequently stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with the flexibility to switch between sitting and moving as required by the job. • Regular lifting and moving of merchandise up to 50 lbs and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, demonstrating safe and efficient handling practices. • Specific vision abilities required, particularly close vision, to manage tasks requiring precision and to monitor the environment effectively. • Frequent operation of a motor vehicle. • Demonstrated mental resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, ensuring strategic decision-making and effective challenge resolution in a retail setting. • Emotional intelligence and leadership skills to guide and motivate a diverse team, fostering a positive work environment and managing interpersonal dynamics constructively.
