Job Title: Construction Apprentice Job Description This role focuses on supporting interior and exterior demolition projects by performing general site clean-up, material handling, and debris removal. You will work on a variety of demolition sites, helping ensure they remain safe, organized, and ready for ongoing construction activities. The position requires consistent reliability, physical stamina, and the ability to work in outdoor conditions for extended periods. Responsibilities • Perform general interior and exterior site clean-up after demolition work has been completed. • Load broken concrete and other debris into wheelbarrows and safely transport materials to dumpsters or designated disposal areas. • Haul, lift, and dispose of materials in accordance with site procedures and safety guidelines. • Sweep, vacuum, and maintain a clean and organized job site throughout the workday. • Assist with interior and structural demolition projects under the direction of a foreman or supervisor. • Report to the shop each morning at the designated time to join your assigned crew and carpool to the job site. • Work as part of a team of 58 technicians, following instructions from the foreman and supporting teammates as needed. • Adapt to working on multiple job sites, including rotating between projects based on workload and business needs. • Remain upright and active for 812 hours per day while working in various weather conditions. • Lift, push, and pull heavy materials, tools, and debris, including loads of up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds when required. • Follow all safety protocols, including using provided personal protective equipment (PPE) and wearing steel-toed boots at all times on site. • Return to the shop at the end of each day with your crew, unload equipment, and prepare for the next days assignments. • Be available and willing to work extended hours, including early mornings, late evenings, and Saturdays, as project needs require. • Participate in out-of-town projects when needed, including overnight stays, while adhering to company travel and per diem policies. Essential Skills • At least 6+ months of construction, physical labor, or demolition experience. • Ability to perform general demolition support tasks such as clean-up, debris removal, sweeping, and material handling. • Capability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds when needed. • Ability to remain upright and physically active for 812 hours per day in varying weather conditions. • Reliability to work Monday through Saturday and arrive at the shop by 6:45 a.m. each morning. • Willingness to work from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with openness to extended hours up to 7:00 p.m. as required. • Comfort working in demolition and construction environments, including exposure to dust, debris, and outdoor elements. • Strong attendance record and punctuality, with an understanding that consistent lateness or absence may result in dismissal. • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew, follow directions from a foreman, and adapt to changing job sites and tasks. • Ownership of steel-toed boots suitable for daily use in a demolition environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Prior experience in demolition, construction, landscaping, or general labor roles. • Experience using wheelbarrows and other basic material-handling tools on job sites. • Comfort working on multiple projects simultaneously and transitioning between different job sites as needed. • Openness to out-of-town and overnight travel for projects when provided with appropriate notice. • Willingness to participate in carpooling from the shop to job sites with assigned crews. • Ability to maintain a professional appearance with jeans and a work-appropriate shirt in line with job site expectations (no cut-off T-shirts). Why Work Here? You will join a highly active demolition operation that offers strong overtime potential and clear opportunities to progress based on your performance and attendance. As you demonstrate reliability and a strong work ethic, you can advance quickly and earn higher pay rates within a few months. Once you transition to full-time employment, your compensation increases further, and you gain additional stability and long-term project opportunities. The organization provides per diem and hotel accommodations for qualifying out-of-town assignments, supporting you when travel is required. You will work in a team-based environment where crews support one another, and where consistent effort, safety, and dependability are recognized and rewarded. Work Environment This role is based in a demolition-focused environment that handles both environmental remediation and structural demolition projects across Iowa and the broader Midwest region. Technicians meet at the shop each morning at approximately 6:45 a.m., are assigned to crews of 58 people, and then carpool with a foreman to the days job site. Workdays typically run from around 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., with the possibility of working as late as 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and with regular Saturday work. You will often work outdoors and indoors on active demolition sites, handling debris, concrete, and other materials, and you should expect exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. The organization frequently manages multiple projects at once, so you may spend one week on a particular site and then move to another based on project needs, always starting and ending your day at the shop. Approximately 80% of the work is local, but some assignments may require travel to locations such as Riverside, Cedar Rapids, or Tama. When overnight stays are needed, hotel accommodations and a daily per diem are provided. All required PPE is supplied, though you must provide your own steel-toed boots. The dress code includes jeans and a work-appropriate shirt, with no cut-off T-shirts allowed. Crews depart promptly by 7:00 a.m., and anyone arriving late or without proper footwear may be sent home for the day.
