Laboratory Technician Position Under general supervision, performs technical laboratory work involved in collecting water and wastewater samples and performing a variety of standard and specialized chemical and microbiological tests. This position exercises no direct supervision. Laboratory Technician Trainee Collect samples and prepare for testing, including water, wastewater, and sludge. Calibrate, maintain, and set up equipment for various laboratory operations. Clean laboratory equipment and facilities. Perform chemical and mathematical calculations. Prepare and maintain quality control records, report files, and daily logs of samples and testing procedures. Conduct standard and specialized chemical and microbiological examinations of routine and special samples of raw and treated water, wastewater, and industrial waste. Prepare samples for shipment to other laboratories. Operate a City vehicle daily to travel to various water treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, lakes, sampling locations (including the entire water shed), and vendors. Laboratory Technician I, II Oversee and participate in conducting a variety of standard and specialized chemical analyses and microbiological examinations of regular and special samples. Supervise the preparation of specific laboratory equipment and standard reagents. Prepare and maintain necessary records and reports. Assist with the establishment and implementation of laboratory procedures. Collect and prepare samples. Train new personnel. Respond to public concerns Order and maintain necessary laboratory equipment, materials, and supplies. Other Job Related Duties Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assists with the investigation of public concerns raised by citizens, as well as performing field samples when assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures, including the operation and maintenance of standardized laboratory equipment. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in a laboratory environment. Safe driving principles and practices. Skill to use various types of laboratory equipment. Operate office equipment, including a PC and Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel, and Google Suite. Safely operate a vehicle. Ability to perform chemical and microbiological tests. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally. Experience and Training Guidelines For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through: Laboratory Technician Trainee Previous experience in technical laboratory work is preferred. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any of the following fields: microbiology, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, medical technology, or a physical or natural science is required. At least 24 hours of chemistry or 16 hours of microbiology, or 16 hours of biology, including 4 hours of microbiology, are required. (Dual credit, placement hours, leveling courses, and online courses in Chemistry and Microbiology do not count towards fulfilling this requirement.) A Class "D" Water License or a Class "D" wastewater license within twelve (12) months of employment is required. A Texas driver's license is required within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is necessary. Laboratory Technician I A minimum of six (6) months supervised training and experience in a laboratory or at the City of Abilene Environmental Laboratory is required. A minimum of a Class "D" Water License, or a Class "D" Wastewater License is required. Laboratory Technician II At least two (2) years of experience in conducting water, chemical, and microbiological laboratory tests is required. Candidates are required to possess at least two of the following: a Class "C" Surface Water license, a Class "C" Wastewater license, or a Laboratory certification from the Texas Water Utilities or American Water Works. Special Requirements Exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, and confined space work. Exposure to chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards. Ability to travel to different sites. As a Staff Quality Control (QC) Engineer, you will play a critical technical role in ensuring the integrity, performance, and reliability of Crusoe's mission-critical data center infrastructure. You will support quality across construction execution, system installation, inspection, commissioning readiness, and final turnover. This is a highly field-driven role at the intersection of construction, MEP systems, engineering, and commissioning, where quality directly impacts uptime, performance, and long-term reliability. What You'll Be Working On Execute and support the site-level QA/QC program for large-scale, mission-critical data center construction Support development and implementation of the Site-Level Quality Management Plan Develop, maintain, and execute Inspection Test Plans, checklists, inspection workflows, and quality documentation for assigned scopes Perform field inspections across civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, controls, and commissioning-related scopes, with strong emphasis on MEP system quality Validate installation against drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, approved materials, code requirements, and commissioning expectations Partner with construction managers, field engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, commissioning teams, and third-party inspectors to identify and resolve quality issues Support coordination with AHJs and third-party special inspectors on code compliance, inspection sign-offs, and documentation requirements Track and manage deficiencies, punch list items, inspection findings, and non-conformance reports through closure Support pre-functional and functional readiness activities in coordination with commissioning teams Review test reports, inspection records, as-builts, redlines, O&M manuals, and turnover documentation for completeness and accuracy Assist in root cause analysis for defects, rework, failed inspections, and recurring quality issues Use quality data, field observations, and defect trends to identify improvement opportunities Help enforce contractual quality requirements across GCs and subcontractors Maintain accurate inspection records, quality logs, reports, and documentation in construction management systems Escalate quality risks early to avoid downstream impact to schedule, commissioning, turnover, or operations What Success Looks Like Assigned scopes are inspected thoroughly and meet design, specification, code, and performance requirements MEP system installations are ready for commissioning with minimal rework Deficiencies, punch items, and NCRs are tracked clearly and closed in a timely manner Quality risks are identified early and communicated effectively Turnover documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready Construction and commissioning teams have clear visibility into quality status and readiness Repeat issues are reduced through consistent field execution and feedback loops Who You Are 7+ years of experience in construction QA/QC, quality engineering, field engineering, commissioning support, or related construction roles Strong understanding of MEP systems, including electrical distribution, mechanical/cooling systems, and controls Experience performing or supporting field inspections, punch walks, NCRs, deficiency tracking, and QA documentation Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, test reports, and technical documentation Experience supporting commissioning readiness, system turnover, or closeout documentation Comfortable working in a fast-paced, field-driven construction environment with multiple stakeholders Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to documentation, inspections, and follow-through Ability to communicate clearly with construction teams, subcontractors, inspectors, commissioning teams, and internal stakeholders Analytical mindset with ability to use quality data, inspection findings, and defect trends to support better execution Strong ownership mentality and willingness to proactively identify and resolve quality issues in the field Nice to Have Data center or hyperscale construction experience Experience in complex construction environments such as healthcare, semiconductor, refinery, central plants, power, or industrial infrastructure Experience working directly with commissioning teams Familiarity with Procore, BIM360, Autodesk Build, Bluebeam, or similar construction management platforms Relevant certifications such as CQM, CQI,
