Your Job Do you like working outside, appreciate beautiful yards and scenery, and take pride in job well done? Are you handy with power tools and equipment? Can you be ready to work on a new task or different worksite from one day to the next? Your Day The job responsibilities may include the following: • Landscaping or maintaining grounds using hand or power tools or equipment. • Mulching, laying sod, removing dirt, trimming, mowing and raking lawns. • Cutting and trimming trees and shrubs. • Watering, feeding, digging and planting flowers, plants and trees. • Growing and caring for plants, applying fertilizer and/or pesticides. • Installing irrigation and sprinkler systems. • Landscape construction and installing wall units • Power washing and snow removal. • Driving a truck and trailer to haul equipment. You will also need to: • Have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, endurance, depth perception, and ability to concentrate on job responsibilities. • Be continually attentive and mindful of your surroundings to keep yourself and co-workers safe. • Be able to understand and communicate information. English language is also essential. • Be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. • Ensure the machines, equipment, and components receive proper cleaning and maintenance. • Obtain required technical knowledge to use various tools and machines. • Carry or lift heavy objects and to squat, kneel down, bend, or crawl in awkward positions. Department: Wastewater & Sewer Pay Range: $15.00 - $21.12 Varies based on experience and certifications Direct Supervisor: Utilities Superintendent Supervisory Responsibilities: None Primary Work Location: Outdoors Physical requirements: Often required to work non-traditional working hours which include weekends, holidays, and nights. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or tools. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license, ODEQ water licenses Job Summary: The Water and Sewer Laborer performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required to operate, maintain and repair the facilities of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Essential Job Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: • Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water mains, hydrants and gate valves. • Flush water mains, hydrants and sewers. • Repair and test motors. • Assist in the operation of a pumping station or water treatment plant equipment. • Tap and inspect new service connections. • Investigate consumer complaints. • Respond to complaints regarding water leaks and pressure loss or no water, and evaluate situation. • Perform custodial duties at the pump stations & water treatment plant. • Assist in the cleaning, testing, installation, and repair of water meters. • May be assigned to read meters as necessary. • Dig ditches and holes. • Inspect manholes to determine condition and locate stoppages. • Service, adjust, and make minor repairs to equipment, machines and attachments. • Perform related tasks as required. Essential Functions, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) for Employment An employee in this class must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities upon application: Knowledge • Light, medium, and heavy equipment operating principle, practices, and procedures. • Minor equipment maintenance and repair functions. • Hazards and safety precautions common to mechanized equipment operation.
