Law Clerk I Employment Type: Full Time, Mid-Level Department: Legal CGS is seeking a Law Clerk to join our team supporting the legal mission of a large federal agency. This position will allow candidates to demonstrate expertise in providing litigation support tasks likecite checking, document review, legal research, and numerous other relevant tasks. Skills and attributes for success: • Works under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager. • Performs complex legal research for the trial staff. • Assists in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc. • Reviews and conducts research for ROI (Release of Information) • Reviews new cases and conducts research of pertinent laws • Edits previously submitted final decisions and writes/researches legal opinions on newest case • Edits and reviews cases for issuance • Responds to citizen letters • Reviews AMICUS briefs • Briefs attorneys regarding legal issues, theories and draft statement of facts. • Assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation. • Cite checking via online legal research tools (Westlaw and Lexis) and blue book. Qualifications: • Requires Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study or, an equivalent level of legal training or experience or an equivalent level of education may be substituted. • Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources. • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. • Extensive experience with cite checking and blue book. • Experience performing complex legal research. • Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging. • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important. Ideally, you will also have: • Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, preferred. • Experience with Relativity, strongly preferred and should be referenced within resume. • Publication of legal writings highly preferred. • Participation in Law Review highly preferred. • Current or active clearance. Environmental Consultant Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking an Environmental Consultant in Texas. In this full-time position, the Environmental Consultant will support environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental review for energy infrastructure projects, with aprimary focus on Texas and opportunities to support projects in other regions where Merjent's clients operate. This role will support a variety of projects, including natural gas, electric transmission, and other energy-related developments, by coordinating permit acquisitions, conducting environmental analyses, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Preference will be given to candidates located in Texas, particularly within a one-hour drive of Houston, to support client coordination, agency engagement, field activities, and project needs throughout the state. This is a full-time benefits eligible opportunity that can be based remotely in Texas. The anticipated annual salary for this position is between $79,400 and $136,500 annually, depending upon qualifications and experience. This position is also bonus eligible. Responsibilities • Manage projects and tasks associated with environmental review, permitting, and compliance services for clients in the energy sector (natural gas pipelines and/or electric transmission lines and associated facilities). • Support projects that involve analysis of the environmental impacts of proposed energy projects, including analyses to support development of project-specific applications and permit approvals. • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies regarding permitting and compliance requirements. • Potential to conduct biological field surveys and associated internal and external reporting. • Potential to conduct stormwater inspections and necessary reporting. • Supporting administrative functions as needed, including document production and technical editing of large, detailed documents. • Work with internal project and task managers and external clients in a manner that is consistent with Merjent's reputation for excellence. Qualifications and Experience • B.A. or B.S. in environmental science or environmental studies, environmental engineering, water resources, geology, biology, natural resources, or a closely related field. • 3-5 years of environmental permitting experience, with preference for work completed in the energy industry. • 3-5 years of experience or familiarity with permitting processes through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, State Historic Preservation Offices, or other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies. • 1-2 years of experience or familiarity with project management and/or deputy project management preferred. • Strong initiative-taker with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and task management skills. • Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure, both in large teams and one-on-one. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze, organize, and interpret data from multiple sources and translate that information into direct, easy to understand written deliverables. • Willing to travel domestically as needed (5-50%), including for field work. Candidates located in Texas or within driving distance of Houston, Texas are preferred. Field work may be required depending on background and/or interest.
