Jerseystem Volunteer All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions. JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey. Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization's gender-equity agenda. Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit. Overview This is a pro-bono volunteer position. As a member of a team of 3-4 volunteers, develop and/or acquire as well as improve STEM Engineering Outreach Program curriculum to be delivered to middle school girls (grades 5-8) who are in underserved communities. (The Outreach Programs are typically delivered as after-school programs following a fall/spring semester schedule.) Responsibilities • Develop new and interesting STEM curriculum, and update existing curriculum • Reach out to content providers for potential partnership • Produce materials for both Program Instructors and students to use in the afterschool programs • Produce extracts of the Curriculum to fit the needs of the class • Answer content questions, and provide advice on curriculum content delivery • Leverage technology for innovative ways to deliver curriculum • Learn and practice the curriculum concepts • Use feedback from ongoing classes to improve/enhance existing curriculum • Be a proactive team member and be part of building a fun and exciting team! Qualifications • BS and strong background in an engineering related field • Experience with STEM curriculum a plus • Strong written and verbal communications skills • Able to adapt and solve problems as they arise • Willing to volunteer advice and opinion • Enjoy working with a team/collaborating Time Commitment • 3-6 Hours weekly • 6 months minimum

About the Program: Every year, we sponsor 2 remote UX apprentices from anywhere in the world to join us for 7 months, either in the fall or spring seasons or online. Our UX apprentices work through the end-to-end UX design and UX research process for a startup idea of their choice that will help them attract hiring managers in that topic space or industry. Apprentices take our program for free and receive 1:1 mentorship throughout the 7-month program. Alumni UX apprentices go on to make between $85,000 -$130,000 in UX design, product design, UX research, or service design roles after they complete the program. We are committed to helping women, immigrants, POC, and LGBTQ folks break into tech and land 6-figure UX jobs. We help you land 6-figure UX jobs or coach you till you get it. Apprenticeship Requirements: This apprenticeship program is open to new grads and UX career changers alike! Here are some apprenticeship requirements to keep in mind before applying: • Interested in creative career paths in UX research, UX design, product design or service design • Willing to commit 5-10 hours of work per week to complete program deliverables • Willing to attend 2-3 hour weekend lectures to learn the end-to-end design process OR willing to complete online video course modules • Open to feedback from UX mentors and demonstrates a willingness to revise design work Apprenticeship Program Learnings: • Build digital products and services 0-1 • Lead end-to-end design process for a startup idea or topic of your choice • Lead product scoping and feature scoping, as well as entire project management • Identify target market for product and position product for launch success • Incorporate AI tools into your UX design process • Design AI features and products by considering AI specific design parameters and heuristics • Understand how AI works and advocate for ethical AI design that builds trust without over-reliance with users • Develop a business model for the product or service and demonstrate how the product/service will scale as the business model scales • Lead discovery research by managing user recruitment, creating research plans, writing interview guides, leading 8-16 discovery interviews, and synthesizing interview insights • Deliver a compelling UX design and business pitch for your startup idea, showcasing both qualitative and quantitative data to justify the problem space and the solution • Tell a compelling story about users by showcasing user types, personas, stakeholder maps, journey maps, process maps, service blueprints, ideation matrixes, sketches, wireframes, UX workflows, prototypes and other visual deliverables • Lead user testing of wireframes and prototypes to improve product/service usability and constantly iterate on your startup idea • Design a unique design system for your solution from scratch, creating components, a style guide, and branding for your solution • Analyze direct and indirect competitors to clearly articulate your solution's differentiators and why your solution is innovative and more likely to succeed over competing options • Consult with startups to create a scope of work and fulfill UX research, UX design, product design and service design work based on your scope of work. Job Summary: The Service Coordinator position is responsible for managing a breadth of our client's service activities including small scope projects, warranty management and administration, planned/ route maintenance and on-demand maintenance requests. The Service Coordinator works directly with customers, vendors and Labor Partners (lighting techs and electricians) and closely collaborates with the Logistics, Procurement, Project Management and Finance teams. Essential Job Functions: •Manage customers' service work orders from start to finish including set up, tracking, material ordering, partner management, warranty management, closeout and invoicing. • Manage customers' small projects from start to finish by using systems, software, and project management best practices to execute timely delivery of service needs. •Maintain good relationships with customers by providing best in class customer service and ensure all service requirements are met. •Manage emergency work orders, off-hours and overnight project management, on an ongoing basis in a rotational on-call system. •Work with and schedule Labor Partners for service and warranty work. •Hold internal and external partners accountable to scopes, budgets, and timelines. •Evaluate the quality of service, identify areas of improvements, and communicate to internal stakeholders. •Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency in project and service quality. • Develop and implement ideas for department improvement. •Manage data and status update reporting (Oracle, Smartsheet, Sales Force & customer portals). • Become a subject matter expert in relevant areas to support service efforts. •Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities: • Excellent interpersonal skills, written/verbal communication with both internal and external stakeholders. •Very fluent and efficient with Excel and working with numbers; classes or certifications are a strong plus. •Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. •Accommodating, flexible, and able to respond to last minute requests. •Experience with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.). •Experience communicating with vendors and customers. •Ability to multitask, transition and keep multiple projects/tasks separated and organized. •Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. •Detail-oriented.
